Galle Dutch Fort

Built by the Portuguese in 1588 and masterfully fortified by the Dutch East India Company in 1663, Galle Fort is South Asia's finest surviving example of a European fortified city. Its ramparts, churches, mosques, and colonial-era streets paint a vivid portrait of five centuries of maritime heritage.
